Oak from Frederiksdal Forest District, which we cut, dry, and use in our own furniture.
In February 2023, we felled oak trees in the forest district close to our workshop at Frederiksdal Boatyard and Joinery. The logs were cut into boards and set to air-dry under cover – depending on thickness, that typically takes three to four years before the moisture content is low enough for the timber to be worked into furniture.
"This oak came from the forest near Frederiksdal - we sourced it and dried it ourselves, close to the workshop. That way, we can follow the quality all the way through, from the tree being felled to the finished piece. Good Danish craftsmanship should last a lifetime, and that means taking the time the material deserves and respecting where it comes from. That's the kind of trust we want to pass on to the people who choose our furniture."
For this oak, we’ve handled the whole process ourselves – from felling to milling – so we get the most out of every log. Smaller and irregular pieces, which would normally be discarded, become components like chair legs and armrests – keeping the material’s story intact from forest to furniture.
Nu, mere end tre år senere, er egen næsten klar. Pladerne skal have en sidste tur i tørrestuen, så fugtprocenten kommer helt ned, før de kan bearbejdes – men vi regner med, de er klar til efteråret. Så bliver det samme træ, vi fældede i 2023, til borde i vores værksted.
