Space Copenhagen

Established in 2005 by Signe Bindslev Henriksen and Peter Bundgaard Rützou, Space Copenhagen is a design studio working across multiple disciplines from furniture, lighting and refined objects, to art installations, art direction and interior design for private homes, hotels and restaurants all over the world.

The ambition is to forge new paths by balancing opposites — classic and modern, industrial and organic, sculptural and minimal, light and shade. Duality and contrast. Curiosity as a fundamental human condition.

The studio’s intuitive approach embodies designs that are distinctively shaped by the given circumstances, functional needs, and a fundamental interest in human behavior. It is a sense of and belief in slow aesthetic that centers quality and longevity.

Evolving from a body of works realised over the last decade between Malte Gormsen Møbelsnedkeri and the Danish design studio Space Copenhagen, the furniture collection is an ongoing collaboration rooted in our continuous work in creating bespoke furniture for both private clients and exclusive interior projects such as acclaimed destination restaurants Noma, Geranium, Geist and 108.

With exquisitely refined workmanship and uncompromising detail set within an unpretentious, timeless expression, the collection strives to reignite the close relationship between designer and craftsman; the intuitive, unhurried exchange between drawing and workshop, creating unique furniture and objects that share a genuine and modest design language, illuminating clarity of intention, material and classic furniture-making principles.

Weaving in and out of the interior projects we collaborate on, the furniture collection functions as a continued exploration of the field, organically creating and adding new objects to the portfolio.
